I have a "barely" used Malibu X-Factor that Im thinking of selling so I can buy a Mini-X or a OK in the 10-12' range. Although I love my xfact its too big to get into the back of my Toyota Tacoma. Much of my fishing is done on small, ocean fed creeks. I occasionaly hit the harbor and di some silver fishing and crabbing. Sometimes I miss just being able to throw a boat in the back of a pickup and going. No special racks, carriers, trailers etc.

Anyways do u guys think Im a nut job? Will the minix be ok to take out in the bay? I.m 5' 11'' and 210lbs. Thanks 4 any input,

P.s. How much could i sell a X-Factor for (used x3 times, garaged, mint condition)?

If you can't put your kayak on your car that kinda cuts down on it's usefulness.  :smt001

A few good boats that are on the shorted side are the Prowler 13 and the Tarpon 120/140. I would be a bit uncomfortable with a mini-x that thing is tiny. Good for a small creek/river boat but that is all I would use it for.

I'll take a mini-x over those puddle jumpers Bills refering to any day. I just ran 11 miles of class II trinity river in my mini-x (w/thigh braces), It's roomy like an x-factor but shorter. Take a look at this pic of Sonny two miles offshore in his tricked out mini. This is Shelter cove, the Redwood coast. He's even got a friggin downrigger on that billy.

Keep the yak and use Hully Rollers or a Hullevator. I personally don't lift my yak but roll it on from behind. The Hullevator fro thule is really cool and kind of pricey $400.

I agree with Swellrider...the Mini is a GREAT little boat.

Learning the art of yak schlepping is a big part of this hobby.  Give it time, or come on by, and it ain't that bad once you know the tricks.

yes,you absolutely are nuts if you choose a smaller yak just so it fits in your truck better. i reccomend nothing shorter than 14 feet. preferebly a tarpon140. i truly believe that if you buy a 10ft kayak, you will eventually regret it.  ps. most the guys on this site are nuts. welcome to the madness(quote from the mooch).

I don't recommend the Hully rollers. They tend to put big dents in the hull, since the pressure-bearing surface area is so small. I pulled off my Hully Rollers and put a saddle in their place. It's just as easy to slide the boat up onto the roof that way.

Longer the better.  Tacoma is like my Nissan.  I got a T160 Tarpon on mine.  Got 2 other Yaks.  But, love my Tarpon and that what sits on my truck.  Get a roof rack and slide it on.

Well guys...
It's a done deal. I sold the yak and ordered the mini-X plus a pfd, and a wetsuit. I hope I don't regret it. Thanks for all the great comments, I think me and the mini will do just fine together. Sometimes good things come in small packages...pardon the pun.  :smt002

You made a good choice whopper, keep us updated on how it's working out for you. I hope you bought from a reputable dealer and not the internet. Folks Like Sean White and myself stand behind our boats with our reputations.

I'm with Bill on this one. If you plan on fishing the Big Blue a lot....and decide to go the distance, a longer ,sleeker kayak will be more comfortable / efficient to paddle.

Just my 2 cents.....

Good luck and paddle safe!

Say hi to Tammi for me and NWKA.  I've run into her a couple times this summer.  Nice person and I'm sure she'll take care of you.
