I launched with my dad and Craig around 7 from secret launch. There was little to no wind wind but all the powerboats had the harbor chopped up. We made our way out to the green can. I was looking for the familiar line of kelp but it was not to be seen, I guess all the winter storms chopped it all up.

We make our way to the outside part of the first reef and drop down into about 40 feet of water. After a few minutes I haul up a nice cabezon. After a few more minutes my dad lands a nice 28" lingcod. For the next hour it is a fairly consistent fish every 10 minutes, all keeper lings and one more keeper cab. We also landed a couple of small rockfish that we threw back. Around 9 am the bite turned off and we headed back in with a limit of cabs and 3 nice lings. Not bad for the opener, but not as WFO as I had hoped. Pics soon...

Bill is very kind not to note that all I caught a limit of was good-natured ribbing from his dad.  :smt001 Although I was getting tons of bites, all I managed was one small greenish-brown rockfish, species unknown, who popped off when I lifted him out of the water. It was an embarrassing showing, though in my defense, my all-time biggest fish ever is a 2 pound catfish.  :smt001

I was obviously unprepared, but I'll be ready next time. Thanks for showing me the secret launch and letting me tag along.

Yeah I think Big Sur spoiled me for sure man. When we got out there and I did not get hit on the first drop I was thinking we should move.  :smt005

Yeah Craig you need to make a trip to Fishermans Warehouse for sure. 12lb test on a trout rod is not going to cut it :smt003

Here is my dad with the stringer:

So yeah I think we did pretty well in hindsight but I miss Big Sur  :smt010

Nice Bill.  Hey I recognize that blue ling from the filet you brought by earlier tonight.   Thanks for dinner!

Yeah he was nice, about 28". Would have entered him into the pool but my dad caught it.  :smt012
