that video is fine, but pike and walleye do not have venomous spines as far as I know. also, you probably don't have a canadian accent, eh? 

Janice, for me the thing that helps the most with filletting spiny spiky rockfish is a way to hold them down. You want a big clip of some sort, they do sell them, or you can use an orange fishgripper and a cutting board with a hand hole that you can use as a hole for the clippers.

if the fish is not sliding all over, it is 100 times easier to process. A good glove might work, but that's one more thing to clean up and those spines are sharp, seems like they would get through the gloves.

otherwise, you get at least three spines in the fingers even if you stayed spine free out on the yak, 

and when handling them, it is a bit icky, but put your fingers in the eye sockets to flip them over and get them in position for the the clip. this works best for lings, but with a little care for the three dull spines near the eyes on some rockfish works well for them too.

you can also use a swimbait on the bottom and a fly on the top as I'm sure you are aware.

Ramon, this is not the Russian Gulch just north of Jenner, this Russian Gulch is just south of Fort Bragg, near Caspar Cove.  A little further, but a much nicer place to launch......

Get a metal meshed glove for your non-cutting hand.  Works great because the fins of a rockcod can not go pass the mesh (usually) and then you can be pretty fearless with the knife.
