My son and I are on a snow trip in the Sierras.

In the cabin, they have Field & Stream magazine covers, and it’s interesting to see how the magazine price increased from 15c in 1908 to 15c in 1938 (just after WW2 started) and 25c in 1945 (end of WW2). Today it’s $12.

One of the covers had “new fishing rules” which is funny as it seems we’re obsessed now with regulations just as much as in the old days.

I don’t think it has been published in hard copy since 2020:

I read that they did a special 125th anniversary (hard copy) edition, and maybe that was super-pricey.

Yeah. I think you’re right. The Internet changed the way things are done. Online fishing…

Cool cover shots and info!

Hmm, $12. The internet calculator reported that $.25 in 1945 is worth $4.14 today. Full color and bigger issues?

I much prefer to read things in hardcopy, but about 98% of what I read is on my laptop or (worse yet) my phone. That’s not progress, IMHO.

Interesting. I moved a lot before I settled down so I actually turned all my CDs into files so I don’t have to carry & store them. I only bought 2 books this year- the one you recommended about CA fish, and another one written long time ago by a true fisherman about Halibut fishing in Alaska. Some info just doesn’t exist online. At least not in digestible format

Don’t get me wrong—I think it’s great that info is available in electronic form. It’s just that I’d much rather read a physical book or magazine than stare at a computer screen…
