My trusty low mileage 2004 v8 4runner was crushed by a redwood tree along with part of my house on Sunday.  Pretty sure it is totaled and thank goodness we are OK!  Could buy another 4runner but wondered what you all thought about Subaru Outback (wilderness) for a kayak rig.  I tow a Malone micro sport trailer with two kayaks - pretty light.  Im pretty set on a SUV as opposed to a truck.  Thanks in advance to your opinions.

Oh no! Bummer that your rig got hit by a tree!

We have a 2013 Honda Pilot, and it's been a pretty solid suv for us.  Not sure your seating requirements, but the 3rd row is fine for teenage sized people, maybe a little tight for "robust" adults like myself. Super reliable though, all the cargo room with the their row down, and comfortable to travel in. Handles better than it should, and with the right tires is pretty capable in snow/mud. Not an offroader by any stretch, but not why I have that vehicle. Reasonable towing capacity for mediumish sized SUV too.  Can fit 7' one piece rods inside.

The roof is pretty high for car topping a kayak or two, but par for the course with SUVs.
