don, what kind of kayak were you thinking about buying?  nice to see that a guy that is also my age is so active.  you must be what, maybe late 50's, early 60's?  most of these guys are in their 20's and 30's, a few even in their 40's.  i'm in my early 50's and having second thoughts about all of that cold water.

interesting website as well.  lots of advertising ...........

thanks for the headsup on the tackle Don and WELCOME to the soon-to-be "maddenss"
If you haven't paddled a yak yet and want to try one or two to see what fits you, there are kayak shops that will rent/test paddle theirs or keep an eye out for a big outing and ask if someone could bring an XTRA YAK to try and fish from......it has been done in the past.  everyone here is WAY COOL w/requests like that.
Hope to see you in your yak and on the water soon!

Don, Welcome to the board. We are the same age and I find that this is a great sport for any age. Become a Kayaker first and foremost because fishing skills won't keep you safe out there. Frank

Thanks guys for all your input...dont know when I will be getting Kayak and my daughter anounced she is getting married a year from this Oct. soooooo, I have a wedding I need to start saving for...I do have a coleman canoe, and it is quite unstable, as you sit on seats level with top of gunwales...I imagine, a kayak is a different world again though....thanks again guys, hope to see you all sometime on the water....Don

My first trip out was on a kayak I rented at Mel Cottons.... IT got me started on the madness :)  Later I purchased my first one from them as well.  You should at least do that when your here, and post for a hookup and i'm sure someone would be able to take you out for your first time!  Then you will know what the kayaking madness is all about!  Here, ill share the video I made the first time out with my pals John Hog and Tim that got me to go kayaking:

Don -

Welcome to NCKA. Age has nothing to do with it. The only physical challenge is lifting the yak on the roof of your car. I am your age and took up the sport 2 years ago. See you out there.

Don don't wait a year you will never forgive yourself. Sell the Coleman I got $300 for mine on Craig's List it was well cared for but it was well used for over 20 years. Then buy a used kayak you will never look back.

thanks guys      I can still lift my 17'  75lb canoe onto my truck, so, maybe, I can lift a Kayak...It shouldnt weigh much more, I would guess. Anyway, I am going to Street Vibrations next week in Reno for 4 days....Maybe, I will win, instead of giving my contribution to the city of Reno...Then I will be able to buy a Kayak...good luck out there on the water guys....I will keep in touch....Don
