Hey All, want to confirm I am reading regs correctly.  From what I can tell, if I am targeting halibut, I can have an undefined number of lines with an undefined number of hooks per line.  If I am targeting rockfish/lings (or have any onboard), I can only use one line with up to two hooks.

So, for practical application, with my son and I fishing near Capitola/Santa Cruz this weekend, we can each troll two poles/lines for CA halibut.  Once we start targeting and retain any rockfish species, we must only use one line with no more than two hooks each until the end of that journey.

Thanks for any clarification - just want to make sure we are good to go!

Unless you are talking fishing in SF Bay, you are correct.

Thanks for confirming how I understood the current law!

Correct. Any number of lines or hooks, unless you're going for rockfish, lings, salmon, or any fish species with very specific rules.  SF bay is one line, 3 hooks (unless you're on a pier, RF/ling/salmon rules still apply).
