My brother-in-law passed on a broke Icom M34 and I found out it will cost $84 plus any parts that need to be replaced.  I do not see any water damage inside so I'm expecting repair parts to be minimal.  My question is, considering the age of this model, would it be worth it to have it repaired?  And if not, any new suggestions for 2013 radios?  I see the Standard Horizon HX150 is about $100 on Amazon but the last post in January didnt have any reviews.

I'd go with a SH.  I owned a couple ICOM's, and though they worked fine for the most part, they didn't seem to have the same signal reach as any of the SH I've since owned.  Dont know anyone that has tried the HX150, but I would give it a shot.  Ironically, I found a site selling it for $84  :smt044  Hell of a price if you ask me, basically any Standard Horizon under $150 I'd consider a good buy.

I go with the new SH HTX150.  I've heard good things about it.  You can always have the old one fixed and use it as a backup.
