I dove today from Sunrise to Ancel Hoffman to scope out where the striper are hanging right now. The two hot spots are San Juan Rapids on the south side of the river and right before you get to Hoffman between the last bend and the beach.I had a couple 22"-30" inchers following  me for a while as I was diving in the rapids. I didn't see any salmon this trip maybe in a couple weeks we will get some coming up. Over all a good day I found quite a few pairs of sunglass, money, a bunch of lures and a nice plastic cone shape filter/screen for an inlet for my livewell tank. Here's what my Gf calls my navy seal pic from today.

Ya I free dive the whole way. I usually rock my 3/3 or my 3/4 depends on how cold the water is.I'll even rock the 3/4 in the ocean a lot of the time when I'm diving because my 7mm feels bulky. My thinner suits are the new titanium lined super stretch neoprene which feels like your wearing just a bathing suit and they are extremely warm for only being 3 or 4 mm. Plus with the thinner suits I don't have as much weight on my weight belt.  This day I was rocking the 3/3 in the river and was still warm. I have used a tank before but its alot easier to flip around and grab stuff in the water with out the hassle of having to fight the current with the weight and drag of a tank.

Post up next time you are thinking about doing this dive. I would live to explore the river with you.

I have to agree about the suits being super warm. I have the aqualung 5mil and was toasty in areas were the 7mil guys said the water was cold.

Believe me if I had a underwater camera I'd be taking pictures left and right. Especially when the Shad are running..its a sight to see when you swim through a school of a couple hundred shad as the sunlight reflects off of them. The salmon are a little less forgiving when their coming up. I have had a couple salmon get aggressive and strike at me. One ended up nailing my mask square between the eyes. Let's just say I had a cool battle wound (bruise) on my forehead for a couple of days. Salmon-1  ERIK- none
