TL/DR: Lost one boatside, others landed theirs. Some never hooked up.

Launched in really nice conditions. Headed straight out to 70' of water and worked south into a mild SW wind. There was a bit of a bite from 8 to 9 in around 90' of water - saw a few nice fish landed - slow pick otherwise.

I had a leader break at the knot when an at least decent/better than decent fish made a hard dive boat side. It pinned my rod to the kayak on the dive and then just popped. The fish had pulled drag earlier in the fight, but I'll check the reel - -maybe the drag is getting a little sticky. 40lb flouro snapped just below the double surgeon's knot I use to make a loop. At least I kept my slingblade. Tied up a new blue hoochie rig and had another takedown that didn't stick and that was it for action.

Worked that area hard, then trolled almost down to egg rock for nada. Party boats working the area were getting a steady pick, but nothing lights out. Lines in outside Rockaway at 5:50 and got off the water at 2:20. Fished from 30' to 90' of water. My hookups came at 35' OTW - heard fish caught from 25' to 45'. Saw a nice limit of upper teen fish and several trout as well.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks for the report. Sounds like it was better than HMB, but not on fire.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

Thanks for the report.  Can be frustrating how you get that 1 shot at a fish… and then that’s it!  :smt012
We're gonna need a bigger boat!

Hi Brad,
Sorry you lost the fish. How big was the blue hoochie you used? Blue dancer mini hoochie or regular 3.5inch hoochie?

My dad and I fished from 6 am to 4 PM and finally on the way back to RW we landed a nice 20LBer.

Very slow grind indeed.

It was the standard 3.5" - probably P-Line, but I'm not sure of the brand.

Cheers,
Brad

Hoochies works well for salmon too?  I was switching between anchovy and herring on FBR but no luck.

I heard yesterday the salmon were real picky with the anchovy bite. I know a bunch of people were hooking up using apex, hoochie, and yes, herring. Herring was outperforming anchovy. Yesterday was also a good exercise in salmon identification; lots of coho in the mix.
