A buddy was in town from Nevada and wanted to catch some fish, so I took him out on a skiff last Thursday in Capitola. Gorgeous weather and it was nice to see the guys on the wharf. Started by the mile reef, hit SC3 and my favorite nonsecret spot, then down to the Spongebob area. Got a bucket of about a dozen or so nice rockfish (mostly browns and some verms). Also scored two lingcod, a 25-incher and a 32-incher, which was beastly and took an 8-inch smelt on a trap rig. Picked up three throwback halibut - one took a gulp swimming mullet, one took a live anchovy, and one took a whole squid. We were a little surprised to pick up the big ling pretty close to shore.

That's a nice lingcod! Thanks for the report.

Sounds like a very productive day, although too bad the flatties were shorties. Heck of a nice ling and plenty of fish for dinner = awesome trip!  Thanks for the report!
