Not only did my Matrix 17 fail after 2 trips, but..

I had not secured the cables and they came out a little too far and I crushed the transducer connector while

putting the yak on top of the truck.  :smt013

My question is can you splice another ( any other ) Hummingbird transducer connector onto this cable?

I noticed with my sons Piranah's, they are transducer specific to each unit, even though they are the

 same machine.....

I was thinking of ordering a extension cable and splicing this onto my ex sisting cable.......... Danglin

I know very little about fishfinders but I think a while back someone had asked about cutting the transducer cables (I think they wanted to shorten them for a cleaner install) and someone mentioned that you aren't able to cut them because of calibration issues.

dude, you have some bad luck when it comes to fishfinders. i don't think i have ever fished with you when your fishfinder was actually working. on the other hand you sure catch some nice fish.

Things seem to go better for me when I actually have no idea what I'm doing :smt002...

This set up was working flawlessly.... 2 times :smt013

I think I'll just keep fishing Blind :smt080

I've come to the conclusion that you can cut these cables and splice them..

Since Hummingbird offers a extention cable that fits most of their brands, their must not be anything

specific to the cables.  So I just need a new transducer connector...

Does anyone have a retired transducer cable with connector in their junk pile?... Danglin

If you can find a connector it should work.  How in the heck did it get crushed, it should be hard-mounted inside the mount body???  Humminbird does make a cove for the mount so if you think you might hit it again it will probably keep you from smashing another one.  BTW-17 have been bulletproof for me.

bought this 17 in the bargin center just before it closed, so "Buyer beware"

still doing work to this one and had not secured the cables..

had not noticed the cable slid out a bit and " Wammo!!! "....

guess I am going to buy the "Extension Cable" from Hummingbird and splice a connector in...

And I'll have another connector for next time!!!

Thanks for the advice :smt006 .......... Danglin

Yes, you can definitely splice on a new section of cable. There are no calibration issues. splicing coax can be... interesting.

Lucky Frankfishing here: Radio Shack sells a coax splicers fairly cheap and makes a world of difference when cutting through coax cable. The problem that I ran into in the past is keeping the proper foil contact and not cutting it away so a proper connection is made. But what do I know mine works :smt002
