Went out today in super glassy conditions in the hopes of finding seabass but didn’t get any takes or mark anything on the fish finder. Water is 58, around 10-15 ft of visibility. There’s all the squid anyone could ever want straight off of lovers point rock in 70-90ft. I’m watching a squid boat drop nets as I type this report. Also found smaller grade smelt and sardines for bait. I tried fly lining one live squid and had one just off the bottom for around 2 hours on the squid grounds and no takes except for a nice 19” petrale sole which was released. After giving up hope on the seabass I moved in shallow and fished the live sardines and live squid for halibut. I worked mainly 30-45 ft of water and ended up getting one halibut around 32in in 35 ft of water about 50yards off the side of the kelp beds. Got the halibut on a big live squid but I’m sure it would’ve taken a sardine if I had had any left. Also got a few nice olive and kelp rockfish in the 15-18” range but quickly moved out of that area so my baits would last. This a relatively new area of water for me, but From lovers point west until you hit the kelp beds seemed fairly sandy with only a few snags. If anyone has experience on getting halibut in this area feel free to chime in!

Aren't you tired of eating Halibut yet?  :smt003.

Crushing it. I'm glad you weren't too bummed you had to settle for a halibut after the seabass didn't pan out :P
