Took the dog (WAF) for a paddle, fished my way downstream slim pickins for the 1st 3/4 mi. Got to PG&E hole first cast felt a couple twitches set the hook feels like bottom but it was moving sucker fought deep and hard almost felt like a salmon 17" smallie. For the next 20 min I was hooking up on every other cast then it died. changed lures and got a couple more. Not bad for a couple of hours landed about 15 fish
4@15" plus a 17" the rest were nice chunky 11-13".

Super nice fish. Using a jig? I have never fished the RR for smallies. Sounds like it loaded.

Very cool Mike! It's a shame we don't have enough lakes in the Bay Area that harbor SMB  :smt011

Cute doggie pic....hope you signed a waiver for taking your dog out of your house....and Mike, shame on you for not putting a "PDF" on your pooch  :smt011 :smt003

NICE, where do you put in?? I'm thinking about hitting them with the fly rod. What type of water do they seem to hold in? Any advise would be appreciated!

Thanks

Matt

If the summer dam is still up launch at Mem. Beach paddle up river about 1 1/2 miles till the current starts then fish your way back. The bigger fish are all hanging in or around the deeper holes that are at the bends in the river. The more rocks the better but make sure and fish the edges of the weed beds. As you head up river around the 1st bend you will see a big cement platform below that on the north bank is a long rock wall 4-6' deep perfect fly water. The two best holes are camp rose at the top of the drift and PG&E which is just above the train bridge very deep 20+. Right below the camp rose hole is some more good fly water very rocky bottom also the big rocks you see in the middle of the river.  Post if you go If I can make it we can launch at my place which is right in the middle of this stretch.

It's good it shallowed up a little this year plus less water. The Drift from Rio Linda to Mem. Beach is a nice drift.

Thanks for the post and pics Mike, now you got to take some of us along.
Can a body put in at memorial, drive in? Then paddle up?
