Anyone fishing Pigeon Point tomorrow AM? Conditions look like they could be pretty decent. Tide will be quite low at daybreak though, and I don't know if that will complicate the launch because of rocks, shore break, etc.

There are some rocks at low tide, but they aren’t bad and otherwise the launch should be fine. Good luck!

Thanks what time you think you will launch? If I make it I'm aiming for daybreak. Dune AI probably with single ama. Happy to provide some muscle to get yaks down, especially if reciprocated.

KPD thanks for the assurance I know you know the coastline like the back of your hand

SW swell 2ft @ 15 secs.

I don't know PP that well, but I would expect that you will want to watch your timing.  Even at just 2ft, those longer period swells have a lot energy.  But probably just a shore break that you can easily time.  Good luck!

I was in Santa Cruz today, and it was a long period swell that was just a gentle rocking on the water, but crashing like thunder on the shore. And, it got bigger throughout the day. I don't know if that has any relevance for PP, but just thought I'd let you all know...

Good point about the swell— I didn’t realize it was from the south. Should still be doable, but it all depends on your comfort level.

I ended up with a lot of family duties today so I made a quick trip to Pedro instead. No whales, bait, or hardly any birds so it looks like we may have to wait until after the closure for nearshore Salmon on the San Mateo Coast. Off the point there was a school of Blues and twice I thought I had a big Lingcod on only to pull up double hookups of 2-3 lb Blacks. Caught a couple dozen fish and kept 10 decent Browns, Blacks, and Black and Yellows.  Headed in around 9:30 and it was getting pretty snotty out there.
I would really like to get down to Pigeon Pt and get into some better quality groundfish. Maybe next month will bring some good days.

Used to shore fish from shore on the beach next to Pigeon Point Lighthouse, is where you normally launch out of ? (Down the wooden stairs) I'm assuming you need a buddy to get a Kayak down that flight of stairs?

I've only done it once. If your kayak is too heavy for you to shoulder, you can get it almost to the bottom carefully on a cart, then you will need to somehow need to carry the last few steps. After the landing there are a lot of people and it gets hectic. That's one of the reasons I skipped yesterday since I figured I'd be landing earlier than everyone else
