I ordered a Freedom v7 direct from OG last August and it just arrived today!!  :smt005 The temptation to grab the electrical probe is like a bad itch, but I'm sure this thing will get me on it's own at some point. Anyways, I'm wondering whether the blue battery pack needs to be submerged in water during use? I think I read something about that. My Compass Duo sits pretty high and so there is not much standing water. Any recommendations on where to run the probe cord? My aft scuppers are typically occupied by my plug-in cart, which seems like the most ideal spot to run the cord. I think the midship area would have the best electrical field coverage, but that cord would probably get all jammed up in the mirage drive? Hmmm

The battery pack does not need to be submerged.

On my Hobie's, I've always put the SS in the rear tankwell and thread it out thru a scupper hole. I don't know if that applies to the Compass, though.

Whatever you do, be sure to secure it, so it doesn't end up in Davy Jones' locker. He's got no use for it.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I accidentally grabbed the cable before landing once, not remembering to turn it off first. It is the strangest sensation--like someone pulled all the tendons in your forearm, all the way up your neck and into your skull, and snapped them back into place. I never made that mistake again. Good proof of concept though  :smt001

Is there another way you can store your wheels while you're out? That's prime real-estate right behind the seat. Either walk them back to the car or put them flat with the wheels hanging off the rear, secured with the bungees?

Not my photo but for reference.

Such an odd feeling when that thing is shocking you.  Definitely put it behind you. I put it in the front scuppers and while under way couldn't figure out why my wrists felt like they were pulsating.   :anger

congrats on the acquisition!
and remember it can electrify the sand under the yak on a wet beach, forcing the ol' "shark shield hop" while you try to turn it off. :smt005

I think that the "must be submerged" thing comes from trying to keep the battery pack somewhat cool, and out of the hot sun. Don't leave it out say, in a hot car for prolonged periods or you can damage the battery apparently. Considering the cost and hassle of obtaining one, I baby mine.

I have a small clip on a short lanyard larks headed around the cable base. I put the lead through a scupper hole and clip the lanyard to a deck bungee.

Uh oh shark shield stories, my cable wrapped in my crab pot and the whole box was lit, I quickly dropped it and let the cable extend out…stepped on my cable under the sand and thought I stepped in an electric eel…”in Tomales?”   :smt006

Just remember to pull the cable in before landing. I bought mine last yr and have made the mistake of forgetting about the cable while landing a couple times. Bad feeling realizing your grinding your $500 equipment into the ground.

On my P15, I use some thin cords to tie it to the side handles, hanging it over the side with the battery mostly out of the water, also used a clip-on lanyard as a backup.  The P 15 scupper holes were not large enough for the cable or I would have done it that way, because hanging midships causes quite a bit of drag, maybe a half of a mph, but in that position I can check to see if it's still on by looking at the light, and can pull the cable up easily when landing.
