Hello!

I'm currently scoping out an used Outback for my first kayak and it seems to be overall in good condition. One thing the seller mentioned is that there's a slight chip on the Mirage Drive where a piece of plastic came off, he mentioned Hobie said it was superficial and not an issue. Hoping someone with more experience than me can confirm if this seems like a non-issue based on the screenshots. Thank you!

I don't have that version of the drive, but those pins are just there to supposedly make it easier to insert the drive into the slot. As far as I know, they serve no other purpose. On the non-180 drive, there is an actual pin there (a separate piece of plastic), and I removed it on both of my GT drives, as I find it just gets in the way

If it was me, I'd file it down flat, and do the other side to match...

yup, i think those pins are meant to be taken off depending on what version of the mirage drive slot is used.

FWIW, I have tried using a mirage drive w/o those pins in an older Adventure (built in ~2008?), and w/o the pins the drive was incredibly wobbly.

Grain of salt: The above may have been user error -- this happened late in PS salmon season; I'd been grinding hard for 2 months w/ little sleep. But I'm pretty sure that the pin is sorta required for some older models.

You can call a good shop too. Like Billy at Wind Toys is super cool and could probably tell you right away what you’re dealing with.

That breaks off frequently and doesn't matter.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, definitely will move forward with the purchase then! Also thanks for the recommendation of talking Billy at Wind Toys as he was super helpful/friendly and also confirmed it's not major concern.

Right on. Billy is awesome, good fisherman too! I’ve only gone their for all my repairs and Hobie questions. No hesitation recommending them!
