Unfortunately my capsizing last week took more than my dignity.....it also finished off my Lowrance Hook 5.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to replace it with.  I can live with a 4-inch screen minimum but prefer 5 inch....I just don't want to mortgage the farm to do it.  What do ya think?

99 bucks?  Does it have GPS or just sonar?

yah, has GPS too.  you can store waypoints etc.
you can't download maps, but then seems most people use their phones for that now.  I just look at the charts before I head out, on a Kayak, i won't be covering that much Ocean.

+1 on the Garmin Striker 4.

I had a Humminbird Helix and currently use a Lowrance Hook 5, but I'd say the Garmin gives you the most bang for your buck, and is the easiest to use imho.

Garmin striker 4 is great.
I had one, but replaced it with a Helix 7 that, unfortunately, has a huge screen, but it’s worth the side scan, down scan, maps, bathymetry, etc. and cost me over $600.
I love it

FWIW, I’ve got a very old (10+ years) Garmin and it’s been incredibly reliable.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I picked up a Garmin Echomap UHD 73SV from Bass Pro for $300 off. It's part of their 50th anniversary Spring Fishing Classic sale. Works great and very intuitive!

I also really like the Striker 4.  Not a huge screen, but also not so big to get in the way.  Big enough to do split screen waypoint/sonar and see what you have. Good data display, easy to use, and power efficient. Mounts easily on the Scotty mount.  Plus, if you lose it or kill it, it's not gonna break the bank to replace.

I run the garmin Elite 4X, had it for like 5 yrs now, always been reliable. Doesn't have gps, but I prefer to use my handheld gps anyway. Having all my fishing waypoints on my handheld allows me to have access to them other than just my Hobie.
