Ok, decided to goop the existing ridiculous connection as opposed to permanently sealing that off and drilling another big hole and moving it.

Looks nice, but I think I would've gooped the inside, since you could just fill up the recessed area. Also, a little goop on the threads would prevent it from even thinking about backing out. And, besides, by gooping the backside, nobody would ever see the goopy mess I would've made of it...

I thought about that but given the stupid placement of the entire thing, I didn't want that lock nut to be more difficult (or impossible) to remove when/if it needs to come out.
