I bought a 245 ds from the local (SC) West's - they had it delivered to the store from their warehouse.  After a couple of uses, it showed everything correctly except the depth, and the picture was just a bunch pixels, then eventually it would only turn on in simulator mode.  From the beginning I used plenty of dielectric grease.  Called the factory in Tulsa and did a couple of fixes, but after a couple of trips to the harbor to test it, it was still giving me the pixels, so I just took it back to West, which replaced it from another in their warehouse in a couple of days.
I got No.2 and it would only turn on in simulator mode, whether it was in the water or not (a big problem, according to the manual).  After holding for 15-20 mins for support  a couple of times from Lowrance in Tulsa on 800 #, and not getting picked up, I got a Repair Authorization No from their website and sent the head in on 8/15.  About 8/25 I got a new head back from them with a note that it was a software problem which they have corrected (how they do that with ones in West's warehouse I have no idea).  It seemed to work o.k. and today I had it on the water and it worked fine.
I was pleased it was so easy, I suspect I was going to have to send it back anyway even if I'd been more patient with the phone support.

wow, what a hassle.

I have a cuda 242 and an eagle DS 245 and both of those units work fine.
