Every year for Memorial Day my family and friends have been camping and diving up at salt point since way before I was born 50 plus years.  This year I’m bringing up my kayak to fish from and am wondering about launch sites. Gristle cove is very close but steep an tough to get a kayak down to and timber cove is sketchy and expensive now. What do you all recommend for me. I have never launched out of ocean cove and don’t know what the price is. Looking for rock fish to feed a herd.

Your other options are Stillwater Cove, and Fort Ross. Both require you to unload, and then park a bit of a distance away. I think Fort Ross is $8, and Stillwater is free.

Fort Ross is up to $10 this year.

Seems like Ocean Cove is the easiest in that you can drive to the launch but I've had better fishing at the other spots mentioned.

I vote for Fort Ross over Ocean Cove as well.  While the walk up and down between unloading site and parking is a bit far at FR, the reward should more than make up for it.

If you are already camping at Salt Point, the pass/sticker they give you there will get you in for free at FR because they are both State Parks, I think.

i usually launch out of ocean cove because its a much easier launch and peddle up to gerstle cove to fish. the only thing is the hill which isnt to bad but also stillwater is nice because its free and easy to get to the beach just need to get there early. if you have some people to help bring yaks and gear down gerstle is not to bad goodluck fish on and tight lines!!
