Hi all,

Allow me to introduce myself: I am Peter.

I grew up in Sebastopol, fished occasionally on the party boats out of Bodega Bay (when I was a kid and now occasionally when I am visiting), and fished for rockfish in the tidepools north of Gualala.

I live in San Diego now. You can find me on bigwatersedge.com using the same screen name. I've kayak fished the SD Bays, La Jolla, outside Mission Beach, and Baja, as well as in SE Alaska.

I worked for the USFS in Wrangell, AK in summer 2017, and did a lot of crabbing (as well as eventually managing to get a Pacific halibut from the yak, nothing huge, but still). I'll be going back this summer and was thinking about making some crab traps that fit better in the tankwell of my Hobie Revo. (It's a 2008 when there was only one size Revo: 13).

I thought this would be a good place to discuss the pros and cons of the available crab trap models with other yakkers that have experience crabbing, and what people would see as tweaks that could improve them.

Thanks for the welcomes.

I started a thread in Gearing and Rigging Up about crab gear, if anyone wants to share their thoughts/experiences:

And in Craftsman Corner, I posted my DIY no-drill FF install using the foot brace rail bolts on a Malibu Stealth 12:

OP again, with an update that I am planning to move back up to Sonoma County, sometime in February.

So I'd be interested in company for crabbing out of Bodega Bay and other adventures.

I'll be based in Sebastopol, at least for the start...
