What's the scoop on Buck's Landing as a launch for accessing San Pablo Bay? The winter talk of chasing dino's has me looking at options (if I ever get a break to head out).

Does it have mudwalk potential or will the creek hold water throughout the tides? Is there still public access?

I found some old hook-ups and reports, but they're all 10+ years old so I didn't know if it was still a viable launch.

Cheers,
Brad

If you’ve never checked out BASK they have some great launch info.

https://www.bask.org/trip_planner/4.14/

You can click on a pin and then click on details. Pictures are usually included at high and low tides.

i've got my boat there so see the launch at a lot of different tides (i launch from LL).  And in years past i've paddled out of there.
couple of things:
1) it is actually farther from Bucks to many of the spots than Bullhead flat- unless you are fishing the duck blinds. its the same distance from bucks to the pumphouse as from bullhead for instance
2)it is full-on mud walk now at what looks like about +1 or a bit below.  John B used to lasso the pilings to pull the last  20 feet of the way in, but not sure that's an option now

Thanks for the intel SteveS - I love the lasso technique. That's hilarious.

When I get the opportunity I'll probably stick with Bullhead or China Camp. I've done the mudwalk once at Bullhead - not again :-)

Cheers,
Brad

Is the gate ever locked at Buck's Landing and is it open to the public? I used to duck hunt out there a lot but would paddle out from McInnes because I thought Buck's was private and didn't want to worry about getting towed or locked in

The yard is closed off, but the ramp is now a park.
There's three parcels of land back there, the yard, the park a d one other that is also private.  The bar was on the private land and so alas, is gone.
