Anyone looking at HMB this weekend? Any advice on where to look for crabs is helpful. I’m also looking to do a bit of fishing, any good spots to target for rock fish?

Got a site at Doran, so going there instead of HMB this weekend.  If you want to fish, you should look up where the reefs are at due south of the harbor by the bell buoy, and plan on crabbing in 50+ fow on a sandy bottom, far enough from the reef that your not going to get rock crabs.  If you haven't been there before, know that there is a serious danger zone where the reef that forms the waves for the Mavererics surf competition.  You will see waves breaking way out south of the harbor entrance, and basically if you stay east  of them you should be fine.  Otherwise fishing isn't really that great there, although there are fish to catch.  Otherwise I've been having success working shallower by going straight due East from the harbor until you reach around 40-45 fow and start there.

Finding a spot is one thing, Making sure you know where to stay away from is another at HMB. Make sure you know where the pinnacle/Mavericks is and stay away!

Maybe I’ll skip it and wait to go with someone who knows the lay of the land down there.

There are usually no shortage of kayakers launching out of HMB Kayak Co.  I've yet to see someone turn down a newbie's request to tag along for the sake of the buddy system.  Saturday is looking like a nice break in the weather, too.  Definitely stay within your comfort zone and don't take this as peer pressure to launch, but if you head over there Saturday morning, you'll have people to launch with that you can follow around and ask questions.  There will be a fair bit of PB traffic in the harbor because recreational crab trap season opens in that area the day before, so keep your head on a swivel on the way out and way in and just be aware of boat traffic and you'll be fine.

Anyone else go out today? Only pulled up 3 rock crabs. Dropped my nets at about 50 FOW near the green can. Are the dungees in deeper water right now? Shallower?

If you're getting rock crabs, move further from the reef and onto sandy bottom.
