08/21 Clear Lake Fishing report

Just got my 1st Kayak 2 weeks ago and gave Rodman Slough on the North shore a try yesterday.  I was on the water by 7 AM and into the bass by 7:10 AM.  Using light tackle I trolled a crawdad jig along the east bank.  I hooked and landed 5 bass in the 1st hour, the smallest was 5 lbs.  Then I headed up the right arm of the slough to try the cat fish.  Shrimp under a bobber with a split-shot and... fish on.  The smallest cat was 27" and about 8-9 pounds.  Just toss the bait about 2 feet off the shore under the trees.

By 11:00, and 8 cats later, it was too hot to fish and they stopped bitting.  Great way to spend a Tuesday.

thanks for the details and WHERE IS YOUR CAMERA?  I was thinkin about a stay with the wife in mid-sept. at State Park, how far is Rodman from there?

Copy the need for the camera !!! That problem has been solved.  The State Park area is also a great place for monster cats and bass.  The best area is where Kelsey Creek enters the lake, just south of the boat launch area and the beach.

Rodman Slough is located on the North end of the lake by Nice, a long paddle from the state park but about a 30 minute drive.  The place to launch is where the bridge crosses the lake on the Nice/Lucerne cutoff Rd.  Follow Hwy 29 toward Upper Lake and take the exit.  Can't miss it.

Very nice work!   are you a local on C-lake?   what kind of boat did you pick up?
ill keep a watch out for you but I am usually a southend dweller this time of year.
Reports from the local guides/yakers are that rodman isnt producing. Way to prove em wrong.

Not a Lake County local, I live in Sonoma County.  But, I've been going to Clear Lake, usually the North shore, for the last 35 years.  I've owned a few power boats over the years and always enjoyed fishing for cats, bass, and crappie.  After a lot of research I bought a Hobie Outback Fisherman with the peddle drive.  Getting into places with my yak that I could never get into with my power boats.

I'll make sure I post before I go the next time in case anyone is interested.
