Sean poked a hole in his butt at Tomales!

 Scwafish and I wanted to Halibut fish today and it was a toss up between Paradise and Tomales. More numbers showing in SF bay but lots of shakers,or fewer fish but larger at Tomales. We decided to hit Tomales and launched at Nick's Cove.  Then headed out to Hogg Island to join KzReelRods,Danglin, and KAYAKJACK.
                                       
           
 

 We made bait (jacksmelt) then started making drifts. Danglin had a fish on that got off,then Eric got a bait scratched between the hooks  . Danglin hooked up on something that felt good but it was an Angelshark.   Sean and I decided to make a rest stop and have a shore lunch. So we pulled out on a west side beach.

 

 After lunch the Sheep started to show and the drift started getting pretty interesting but we stuck it out for awhile. Jack and Erik headed in and we made a long paddle upwind for a final drift.
  We were at the end of the fishable water and Sean hooked up in 10ft. for a "Hail Mary" fish. The picture looks like he "Harpooned" it, but it was just his Kunz gaff.

 

  It seems to me that you see some goofy sh!t at boat launches. As we came in fighting wind chop and getting soaked, there at the launch was a canoe loaded 2 feet over the gunnels in the center with 3 people staring across the bay. We tried to discourage them from launching, but they decided to try making 2 trips across to camp. When we paddled in, waves were breaking sideways over my bow, I hope they made it.

 Then next to the porta potty we all used, there was a little parking problem. They missed the john, and locals pulled them back onto the road.
 
 

 No one was hurt, and I'm glad they missed the john, especially when I was in it.

Looks like a typical day on Tomales. Foggy and calm morning and white cap afternoons. With that ramp closed there are a lot less PB hitting that area. Probably a few more halis around. Way to go boys!

Tote: This dink was egg-zactly 1 inch longer than my last one...26 inches.  My score won't be doing much    I was really hoping Shimmy could get his devil fish today, but it wasn't to be.  At least the fryer will be happy, even these little guys make a lot of meat.

Jonesz: No shortage of PBs my last few trips, I think everyone is just launching at Lawsons. 

Seabreeze:  I won't be at the tourney, jelly has his first ever football game, gotta be there.  I pass by butt-mojo onto you...Randy is probably still high on the Elk raffle glory.

Indeed it was the hali-mary.  A few missed fish and take for the group, but a LOT of Toamles wind and work. I was seconds from pulling the gear when I dropped my jacky down to drift on last little side channel...a light tap followed.  I am now 2 for 4 at Tomales this year...I almost feel good about fishing here again. 

$17 a launch I guess Lawson's is enjoying the extra buis. As you found out, sometimes those little unsuspecting little side channels can be quite rewarding...

Nice Work Sean... I was hoping someone would come away with some glory. 

Danglin had a nice butt to his kayak earlier in the day but he got broke off after it woke up and went ape on him.  He was just a little slow with the gaff... next time.

I had my chance today as well and missed it... we know there are some fish in there. 

Also, making bait was a breeze this morning... plenty of primo jacksmelt.  I had the tinyest of sabiki's and that was the ticket.  Only problem is that the jacksmelt destroyed my sabiki... I think there is only one hook left on it.

Nice day on the water... definitely better than working.

Went to school today....

  Nice Hali,( Over 30" easy ) Taught Me to set drag right on new Avet as not to Muscle ,

 And don't Lag with Gaff,

Purposely left my net Home and with Eric right there, I really wanted to Put my new KZ Gaff to Work..

 I waited too long and pulled too Hard... " SNAP!!! " Brand new 25lb P-Line ...

 KZ, MasterBaiter, Taught me.... If your going to bring Sabiki's, Bring different sizes,

 I could not " Hook " A smelt to save my Life, even though they were hitting my oversized Sabiki's

Thanks KZ for passing me Some nice Smelties ..

 Aprox 30lb+ Angel Shark taught me not to get to close to their mouths,

 They will definitely leave a mark , Incredible " Chomping " sound those puppies make..

I really thought the bite was done when Scawfish Pulls a nice Flatty out of the middle of the Bay in

 10 feet of Washing Machine

 I set up a drift over the same area and noticed a huge " Sturgeon like fish " jump... I could not figure

 what it was, I've heard that sturgeon could be in there but... It was Blackish/Light, kind of salmon like

 with a BASS LOOKING HEAD!!!! Thats IT!!! WSB!!!! Sure enough... It takes another leap, and no

 doughting this time.... In 10 ft of Windy, choppy, muddy water is a WSB!!!!   Big Mother!!!!

 I was unable to do anything about it, but they are there...

 Going back next week,
