Thinking of going down the Russian River this Sat (below Healdsburg). Does anyone have any experience fishing there this time of year?
Would I have any chance of catching small mouth bass?

Have an out of town guest so thinking of doing something easy, probably rent a canoe.

Thanks

I think above H-berg would be better but Mickfish is the resident expert.

Drift between Asti and Healdsburg for the best smallie water.

The drift from Alexander Valley to Healdsburg is the the best but it's long and will be packed with partakers, :party when I paddle this section I get an early start and just paddle for an hour or so to cover some ground. Then I slow down to fish, most of the fish in this section are smaller then below Healdsburg, but you will find some deep holes that hold big fish but you have to be quiet. The last couple of miles have big boulders and a lot of rock walls. I think the kayak shop by the bridge has a shuttle.

Healdsburg to Steelhead Beach is the perfect length drift for fishing. You won't see many people, not as many fish as the upper section but larger if you know what you are doing you have a good shot at catching a couple over 15". There is a dam but it's an easy carry. The Redwood section of this drift is stunning.

Lures Rapala 2 1/2" silver and black minnow, small Shad Raps, Yellow and orange jigs. Drop Shotting works great but bring a lot of worms
the smaller fish chew them up 1 pak won't do it favorite color is Aaron's Magic use dark colors the smallies eat a lot of eels, and crawdads. Remember Barbless Hooks and no Bait.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
