This is a pretty interesting article I came across. Although I usually :smt001 try to stay out of 8 foot dumping surf, it was a fun read with some good info.

Thanks Sean! Great Read and should be requied reading for all. I see how quickly things can go south and how much I still need to learn. Practice, practice, practice.

Good stuff right there  :smt023

I had a met with Vince form Aquan Sports a few days ago regarding saftey issues regarding kayak fishing. Now that our group is getting bigger, it would be nice to have seminars that would help out the newbies. Sometime next month, we plan to hold seminars on kayaking / safe practices. We will also have discussions on "what if" situations and we can also have on the water drills at the Aquan Boat House in San Mateo. The main store at Aquan also has a class room with projectors that we can use. All this will be free of charge.

And as the weather starts to turn on us...we can start the "pimp my kayak - Winter project" with Aquan - again, no charge and the necessary tools will be provided by Aqaun Sports.

I will keep everyone posted....

My favorite part of the article:

As well-trained as rescuers might be, you can’t expect to be rescued everywhere, even when right next to a populated island with coast guard rescue crews on hand. It’s important to have the skills and the equipment to be self-sufficient.

But of course you all knew that, right? :)
