I'll be spending a week at a house near the Fairmont Orchid next month.  Will bring some reef whipping gear and jumbo floats to hit the local beach.

Wondering if anyone's familiar with that area of the Big Island and recommend some can't miss things?

TIA

I've fished from the rocks all along Waikoloa which isn't too far from there. , poppers and shallow diving Rapalas caught some decent Jack's,  a
lot of needle fish, and a couple of barracuda.

There are all these fingers of rock that jut out with nice blue water outbound, and little pocket coves inside. Parallel  casting to the main shoreline, across the coves entrance got most of my fish.

If you want an exercise in frustration there's schools of bonefish at A bay...

All I know about it I've learned from watching Shaka Fishing videos on Youtube.  I'm practically addicted to them, been watching them for days instead of TV.  Look forward to hearing about your trip!  I'll be going to Kauai in Oct, bumming around the island in a campervan and fishing the shore.

Thx steve.  was thinkng of bringing a bike and riding the IM course (or parts of it).  but that's too much gear, mayb rent a bike at most, otherwise, i'll mostly be swimming and running.  google earth recon def reveals lotsa craggy areas that might seem fishy.  Don't wanna catch that Cig tho, so its all for fun.

I've also fished around the Waikoloa area and never down that far South.  I usually like to use Kastmaster and do pretty well with the papio.  I'd also bring some water bubble's, egg sinkers and 2" grubs in assorted colors.  This is usually the most consistent produce of reef fish as well as papio.  If you end up hitting a market you can pick up squid or shrimp and its game on with a small hook for all the reef fish.

There's an amazing ride that hits part of the IM to Hawi, then climbs up the ridge there and loops back...do that. The IM route is just a big ass shoulder on a hwy. Here's the strava

I rented a bike from a shop right there in Waikoloa,  just brought my helmet and shoes and bibs

Yeah, not sure why that is.  But I did just see that about 6 weeks ago Kapono proposed to Aura, so maybe they are taking the summer off.
