American River Wednesday

Chryss and I will be fishing the American above Howe this Tuesday Wednesday evening.  We will probably get to the Howe access at about 6:30 or 7:00.  We'll be throwing chovies and big poppers in attempt to find a few keeper linesides.

I fished from Gristmill (Bradshaw) to Watt on Sunday & got one small striper trolling.  Nice area though, lots of bass & crappies in the still water and stripers in the moving water.  This stretch of the river doesn't get a lot of fishing pressure.  If I get off work on Wednesday it would be great to meet you guys down there.

I might be able to join you guys wensday. I have to work at the office in EDH. Things are hetic as all get up right now. I'll know for sure tommorrow afternoon.

RF60-  How long does it take to get from Bradshaw to Watt?  We would be very interested in doing that this Wednesday evening as long as we wont get locked in at Watt after dark...We can usually be on the water by about 6:30...

From Gristmill to Watt it's no more that 2.5 miles so with the flows the way they are and not paddling down stream I'd say no more than 1.5 hours to be on the safe side.Thats taking your time with fishing and hanging out floating.

The park hours are for Watt are "Open from sunrise to sunset, unless posted otherwise". I know Sunrise hours are posted untill Ten oclock, usually they are between 9 oclock and ten oclock at night. Here is the link for Watt

Directions to Gristmill are from Highway 50 take the Bradshaw Rd. exit, head north on bradshaw towards Folsom Blvd. Turn left on Folsom Blvd , then a right on Mira Del Rio Dr. and then take a Left into the park.

Abdivers got it right. You can drive into the park, and down to the waters edge.  Don't get stuck in the loose river rocks.  4x4 it, or stay to the left going down onto the gravel bed.  I've got a red Dodge. I'll try to get there also.

The river splits about a quarter mile down from gristmill.  Going to the right (north) side gives you more interesting fishing opportunities.  The river comes back together well before the Watt bridge.

I usually paddle down to the end of the island then troll back to gristmill.
