Low. Hot. Smoky. Fishing red hot multispecies, only to improve.

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish

Thanks for the great video.  With the water so low, fish are probably stacked over one another.

Very kool video. Thanks for that. Good for finding potential spots when she's filled back up. I noticed some good rock piles etc. We can't take another dry winter tho...

Word around town is we're looking at 190 feet down by September and a record breaker by the end of the year. Still smoky, bite is on and off but when it's on, it's ON.

I’m heading up this Friday. Was anything biting besides bass? I’d like to target trout if possible.

Everything is biting.  Rainbow trout mainly, kokanee is turning on, landlocked kings have been hit or miss for me but seen plenty landed. Browns have been absent as of the last month. Bass have been on the smaller side this year, but still there. Up top mainly chasing shad.

Update:

Packers bay now closed except to houseboats. Haven't been to Jones in a while but officially still open. Hirz/Antlers have been closed. Sugarloaf is open but that's super close to the fires so I've stayed away. Having to wear an N95 on the water some days unless I want to come home to discolored mucus and a lost voice for 24 hours. The stinging in my eyes from smoke and sweat is bad enough. AQI has improved greatly but not 100%. Centmudi has been my go-to, marks are improving in the lower reaches. The low launch has been in effect for some time, should be okay for the season. The slope leading from the low launch parking lot down to the water where the bankers hang out and party is where I usually launch, and will have shoreline access for kayak launches for the next 40-50' of drawdown. Rocky but easy. Parasites just starting to show on Shasta fish now.
Bridge should be flipping soon is the word on the street. They'll manage. Private marinas seem still operational.

Bridge should be flipping soon is the word on the street.

What does this mean?

The traditional launch on Bridge is on the inward side of the point/island (south) depending on water levels. With it so low, the traditional launch is out of operation. Which means that houseboats mooring are going to have issues launching and reaching services. So they're flipping the entire floating marina and launch and services to the I5 bridge side of Shasta Lake, towards the middle and deeper water. That has traditionally been an offroad dirt launch for kayaks or bankers. Now it will be the primary launch. Along with moving all services/floating docks/houseboats to the deeper side. Doing so will require several towboats I'm sure, they have a lot of hardware to lug all the way around the point. I can only imagine what kind of wake that would put out.
