My company is setting up an offshore outsource in Cebu, Phillipines. I was not slated to go over with the initial team but I expect to be sent over shortly. What kind of new tackle might I find over there?

Brian, YOU are the lure.  Just troll around and see what you can catch!!!

Seriously, there is not much sportfishing done in the Philippines so I don't expect you'll find anything interesting.  There is, however, some great scuba diving around Cebu.

Bummer on the tackle.

I'm not scuba certified but now that you mention it I bet there are lot of great wreckage dive sites. Might be worth it to get certified.

Never been to Cebu but most of my family and friends have visited there at one point and have said that Cebu is growing more and more and is turning out to be the biggest city next to Manila itself. And yes, I also heard that the Scuba Diving industry in Cebu is top shelf.

And I agree with Allen - unfortunately fishing is not too popular in the Islands.....I grew up in Manila and never saw a "lure"....all I used back then was a bamboo pole, mono , hook, a trusty night crawler and a homemade slip float - made out of a piece of rubber from a flip flop. "Proper fishing tackle" was only available / affordable for the rich.

Speaking of rich....the Dollar goes a loooooong way in the Islands....prepare to get spoiled :smt002

Oh, and learning the language is almost useless cause If you hop on to another Island, you'll have to learn another language  :smt045 There's about 80 or more different dialects in the Philippines.....I only know two.....Tagalog and "taglish" (Tagalog with a mixture of English)

And be careful about what Island to visit if you ever make it out there....there are 2 factions of separatists / Rebels that like to kidnap foreigners for a living   :smt011

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Brian,

I certified in the phillipines, it was in Subic of course, but I know it is real cheap. Very worth it, the diving there is great, the water isnt the brilliant blue of Belize, but it makes up for it in clarity. Be careful diving around any rivers flowing into the ocean there, without going into detail, the water there if very shitty....... :smt003. Have fun I know I did 20 years ago..... :3some:

I was just going to say 'hand grenades', but you beat me to it.  ;)
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
