Hello everyone
I am visiting Oxnard was wondering if you have any recommendations and tips on where to fish. Port hueneme / channel island area. Some where for beginner since I’ll be taking my cousin for the first time on kayaks. So easy launching would be best.
In would like to try to fish for calico bass /rock fish.

Thanks guys

Leo Carrillo, would be a good choice for Bass,Bonita, maybe a halibut. I think ,I would take a newbie to channel Islands harbor ,first.  It is important to get use to the ocean first, then if he does good,a beach launch would be next.
We have the government, that our forefathers warned us about.

Roger that. I agree going to stick to the the harbor for now. Actually went to a tackle shop to help me with the local gear. There was a kayaker there and suggested launching off Beach at the mouth so easy to launch and no rough waters

Not sure if you went yet, but google Kiddie Beach Channel Islands harbor.  Super easy launch with no waves.  Just paddle out to the breakwall and fish.  Normally its better on the outer side of the breakwall but if its too rough you can fish the inside of the wall.  I would usually use a 3" or 4" Big Hammer and just swim it back or drop it in the pockets.  You can usually catch some small Calicos or Sandbass, brown rockfish, or the occasional cabezon.  The other spot to fish is just off of Hollwyood beach and drift for halibut.  I would usually use a drop shot set-up and just slowly bounce the bait when drifting.

You can also launch out of Ventura Harbor at the public launch and again fish the breakwall.
