Got out near flat iron yesterday for some rock fishing. They liked the anchovy and had a blast hooking a diversity of rockfish! I was probably fishing for 1.5 hrs and could have landed a limit but decided to let most go. I couldn’t help retaining that nice vermillion and canary. Too pretty! With the high winds and big swell this spring it has kept a lot of us off the water. Our local ocean-going salmon have been enjoying themselves out there I’m sure! High nw winds and cold cold ocean temperature anomalies all late winter/spring unlike we’ve had in a few years bodes well.

I also scored 3 legal dungees after sorting through many clickers...

Two buddies and I went up to Trinidad for the first time this weekend (5/22-5/23), just going out of the harbor.  (My local haunt is Santa Cruz.)

We had no idea where to go, so we just looked around for structure and dropped shrimp flies with squid to see what we could get.  Ended up with some very nice black rockfish.  After talking to a couple of locals later, we've got a better idea where to head on the next trip out so we can get some lings.  Beautiful weather, with the swell flattening out on Sunday, made the trip totally worth it.

Coho Joe and I also went out at Trinidad on Sunday. Great to meet Yaad and David, it was our first time out kayak fishing for this year. We followed David and Eric in an investigation of pinnacles on the outside and it did not disappoint.

David got on the board first with a chunky black rockfish just short of being under the lighthouse as we made our way out around the rock. We then moved further out and explored. I caught a nice selection of rockfish as well as a 29" Ling. We all caught mutiple species, I kept 5, released several more. Water conditions were great, the fan didn't come until afternoon. swell was light.

Nice time visiting on the beach, too. Very fun day and stoked on getting back OTW. Thanks guys!

Right on! I think I saw you out on the water. I was targeting the same general zone I think. Good to see you got into the lings!
