The biggest screens out there are probably too big to put on a kayak. Some of the newer fancier units have transducers that don't fit all kayaks without hanging out in harms way.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Anther option is the garmin striker 4 plus. It was $139.00 plus a two year warranty for around $30  More.  Has GPS/ waypoints, dual beam, sonar and contour mapping. With a mount and 10ah battery around $300. Everything you need nothing too fancy.  So that may be a good budget option.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the suggestions and help. I realized that I'm intimidated about installing one and putting a battery in the hull.

i'm in Santa Rosa.  I have ZERO anxiety when it comes to drilling holes in someone elses kayak.  jus sayin :)

with sweaty palms and beads of sweat on my brow, I got it done neatly on my Hobie.  it wasn't difficult.  easy almost, once you poked that first hole.

[emoji1787] Yeah I bet. I’m comfortable with drilling now after installing some rod holders. I’m just nervous about a battery in the hull.

a battery in the hull is the least of it , use the search you`ll see...i remember the first time I drilled into my first kayak ,9 years ago..now i talk dirty to them ..LOL
Possible thread jack...I remember cooking a brisket with a plan B pressure cooker correction technique in the wings and that alleviated some fear of ruin...the anxiety for drilling holes in yaks for me is alleviated by having plastic welding techniques at least studied and several practice sessions...drill baby drill... :smt006
