Rancho Seco 8/18-19 Bass-n-Tubes Tourney Report

The Lord was good to me on a tough night. I got on the water for a couple of hours right before the tourney started, mostly just to see where the weeds were in relation to major points and coves (it's hard to do after it gets dark!) I got one dink drop-shotting and lost a better fish (5+) right at the yak while throwing a chatterbait along the dam.

I headed to the dam at blast-off trying to duplicate my earlier success but to no avail.  Right before the sun went down I pedaled over to a couple of my other areas. The chatterbait wasn't working in the weeds, so I switched back to my trusty Midnight Special blade (black with single Colorado blade & rattles). I found that the deep weed edge seemed to end in about 10' of water, so I tried to keep the yak in 10' and cast parallel to the weed edge. Then I retrieved the blade just fast enough to keep the blade spinning. I had consistent action all night long; must of had >12 hits, hooked 10, lost 3, landed 2 dinks, weighed in 5 keepers. Nothing to brag about (about a 1-lb average) but enough for the win!

Way to go Gordon! I was out on the local lake Sunday evening tossing an x-rap, a jig/beaver and a frog. I was out for just two hours and had a couple fishes and a couple misses. But I was wishing that I'd actually brought a night-time spinnerbait. Looks like you really used one to good effect!
