Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Opened up the rockfish and lingcod season with Kerry and his son Sean at Shelter Cove yesterday.  Wind slop from the recent persistent north blow was hanging on, but the forecast panned out and allowed us to execute the full offshore tour.  One charter and a few other powerboats launched, but we had the area around Point Delgada all to ourselves.  The bite started a bit slow with a couple of short lingcod, but once I got the guys on a spot we had plenty of legal lings, stout blacks and a few other species coming up.  Stringers filled out nicely, conditions improved a bit toward midday, and we were content to wrap up by early afternoon with a few bonus Dungeness to round out the harvest.

Taking a father-son team out for their first time at the Cove is one of my favorite trips, and a cold beer at the tailgate fillet station really hit the spot.  The 2021 kayak fishing season at my favorite port along the coast has had an official status change:  it's now Game On!   :smt001

Love those Monster Blacks at the Cove. No sub-limit this year where you are releasing 18 inchers cause you know you'd limit on 20+ inchers.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

Once forgot my gloves on a dive. The water was unseasonably cold. I had made the drive to the coast w/ a visiting relative from Hawaii to get abs and fish. It was like trying to hold marvel infinity stones.

Thanks for the SC fishing trip report and pictures Eric.  Hopefully I can make a trip to SC this Summer.
