McCloud Res. (Siskiyou Co.) 8/11 was excellent

Fished for a couple hours at mid-day on McCloud Res. with my sister-in-law.  We had five Rainbows (planters) about 10-12" and she had another that went 15".  Used blue/white J-7 Rapalas and black #8 Crystal Buggers.  Lots of other hits.
It was my sister-in-laws second time out fishing from a kayak and she snagged her finger with a treble hook clear through the finger while trying to de-hook the 15 incher.  My wife cut the hook with wire cutters, pulled it though, applied hydrogen peroxide, bandaged it, and then her sister went back to fish for another hour of catching fish in the kayak.  What dedication!  My wife returned to reading her Sunset magazine. At least she loves to kayak.

your SIL sounds like a tough gal!  I've been wanting to get up that way, is it primarily a trout fishery, or are there other species to chase as well?

McCl. has large Brown Trout and Rainbows. 
Lake Siskiyou in Mt. Shasta has the same and Bass.  The best time for the larger trout is late fall and early spring.
My sister-in-law I believe feels no pain.  I couldn't stand watching her waving her hand about with a J-7 Rapala tieing up the kayak while waiting for my wife to bring the hydrogen peroxide.

McCloud is my old stomping grounds. My dad use to be the sheriff up there in the  40's and 50's. Use to live in the small lumbermill town of Pondosa. McCloud river and Res. use to be great fisheries, haven't been in years......
