Hey all,

I found a hole under the nose of my Hobie Passport 10.5 (about 1/4" and I did take on a bit of water).  Tried to research it a bit, and it seems that because the material is different than other Hobies, a plastic weld may not be effective, and I'm struggling to find resources on this specifically.

First, is this repairable at all or am I SOL as far as needing a new kayak?

Second, if it is repairable, can anyone recommend a place in the bay area (or even California) to send it to? I live in San Jose, but willing to travel a bit to save my Hobie/hobby.

Thanks in advance!

According to Matt Miller (the most knowledgeable guy on the Hobie forum), the repair process is the same as for a rotomolded Hobie:

And, btw, the plastic is the same, it's just thermoformed, as opposed to rotomolded.

Thanks for the clarification Nowhereman! That gives me a bit of hope... I read somewhere that it was different, which conflicted with what I was reading about the material being the same on the specs. Figured it was just me missing or not understanding something, and assuming that everyone else online knows more than I do (which is true 99% of the time!).

Ok, so I can stop hyperventilating... was so bummed when I saw it...my birthday's comin up in a few days and I'm not gonna be out on the water...what a bust! But hey, as long as I can get back out there at some point!

I've used CA Canoe Kayak for welding jobs and was very happy with the results.  You can also consider adding a BerlyPro Keel Guard.

Or maybe you can coax that guy who used to own Santa Cruz kayaks out of retirement. I know he does good work.
