I need a new Shark Shield. Mako Spearguns is out of stock.
Who is the main supplier that one would buy from these days?

Also, my current SS seems to have a dead-ish battery. Is it worth getting it re-celled?

Thanks!
Andrew

Yes, get it re-celled, the new batteries go longer I've heard... :smt006

How much does it cost to get the battery replaced? I’ll prolly need to do that soon.

Haven't done it yet.  They should respond to email.  I'd call first... :smt006

I did a little more digging and it looks like mine can’t be refurbished as it’s the older “clear case” model (last made in 2013) mentioned in the link below. That would be something to watch out for if buying a used SS...

a few years back I sent my original freedom 7 in as SS had a trade in program. I got a new unit for I think about $200. it took a while as they were waiting for units to arrive from Oz.

Anyone use Shark Shield while kayak fishing? Or is this only for diving/spear fishing?

Quite a few of us use them in our kayaks. I place mine in one of the scupper holes. It would be great if they had one specifically for kayaks with a larger battery, or with the ability to use another power source. I am usually on the water for longer than the battery lasts. I wait a few hours before I turn it on.

I bought another SS for that purpose.   The early ones quit at barely 5 hours and the new ones claim 7.  I know some people don’t use them at all.  I like mine on, still yet, if it’s your turn, it’s your turn.  Still seems to be a rare event statistically?:smt006

Has anyone tried using the Shark Shield Freedom Surf on their kayak? Looks like a better setup then having the cord hanging out of scupper hole. I’m worried about the cord getting caught up on my Autopilot motor. Can the Freedom 7 be charged while in use?

The thin instruction book for mine says to turn it off before charging
.
Also: Does anyone know if my Freedom 7 is one that allows a battery change (see pics)?  The plastic is blue colored, but I can see through it, so is that "clear" plastic or not? I bought it in April 2016 from a dive shop.

The manual doesn't even mention "Freedom 7" or anything other than Shark Shield , only the sales receipt says Freedom 7.  It does have a serial number on it, I will check with SS if no one here can tell me.  So far, it works fine, for about 5 hours, which is plenty for me.

There's a picture of the "clear case" towards the bottom of this page:

It really is clear (not blueish) and it looks just like mine, so I'd assume yours is not yet obsolete...
