You can unload and launch at the kayak launching area but need to move your vehicle to the parking area.
It is a 10-15 minute walk to the parking area.  Also, highly recommend a beach cart to launch.

Is the parking always open or do they lock it up at night?

Gates at the Fort close. I believe on a couple occasions... I locked my keys in the car as I was rushing to make it out. Incredulous how stuff can happen
