Short version. No sturgeon. Some stripers. Great weather.

Made a last minute decision to try for sturgeon today in San Pablo Bay. Sam and I hit Bodega Tackle on our way and got some fresh bait. We arrived at Bullhead around 8am and parked right by the water (gotta love the state parks pass). Originally was going to hit China Camp, but Bullhead was open and a little closer.

Unpacked and OTW by 830. The tide was coming in with a high around 1pm so we decided to head shallow for our hunt. The weather was amazing, little to no wind, partly cloudy, cool but not cold. The birds were out in force swimming and flying. Just a great morning to be on the kayak.

We anchored up in our first spot and started soaking bait. A few pecks at the bait here and there but nothing that stuck. Probably tiny stripers.

Move to a new spot and are someway close to some charter boats. More striper bites with some hooked and landed. All small.

The boat near us lands a keeper sturgeon and our hopes are high. Time goes by with no action and we make another move even shallower. Now in spot 3 for a short amount of time and we spot a jumper maybe 200yrds away. Hopes are high again, but other than more tiny stripers no action.

Pulled the plug after the tide turned and called it a day. No sturgeon love, but that’s fishing.

Thanks for the report, and the great pictures. haven't heard of bullhead so I'll have to look that one up. wondering what bait you were using.(grass shrimp? ) Hoping they've moved down in numbers and now is a good time to get out there. Again thanks for the report!
