Just got back from a week and a half up on the north coast. I've got to say the lings are bigger up north then they are down here in tha Sur... Definitely gonna be up there a lot this fall!...

Started my trek with 5 days backpacking the Lost Coast. Took it super slow, and it was absolutely beautiful. Found a giant octopus washed on the beach and one of the hugest lingcod skulls I've ever seen. Super sharky, fishy area... I'd highly recommend it if you've never hiked that trail. Incredibly beautiful, and a unique experience hiking the black sand!... On a good day you could launch from Mattole and kayak all the way down to camp at Big Flat for the night.

Spent the night on my buddies property near shelter cove. Heard reports of salmon so we trolled out around the buoy for a few blakky rockfish. One of the sharkiest areas I've fished in. Every fisherman and surfer knows that intuitive feeling of not being the biggest thing in the food chain, and I was definitely feeling that way out there.

Headed down to my buddies farm up on the albion ridge. That whole parta cali is smellin pretty good right now.  :smt003
Saw a few DEA jeeps raging up this no name road, and two helicopters flew over!!.. Seems like the feds are doin all they can even in the face of prop 215.

Fished Van Damme SP near little river two days in a row. First cast out landed a 19 lb lingosaurus, next one came in at 15 lbs. Lotsa black RF's as well. Stoked on the big fish factor in shallow up there. Trekked down through Sonoma and Point Arena on the way back. More exploring to do next month!!

Tomorrow my buddy Ari who is down in Baja most of the year is coming up. We've got a 4 day kayak camp trip down the Big Sur coast planned. Starting on private property noth of Esalen all the way down to Willow Creek. I'll TRY and take some pix and post a report next time around!.  :smt013

Livin tha pirates life full time! Catchin big cbass in tha kelp all summer long Have fun, live well, conserve the resource, and ask me about my secret fishing spots. but I probably won't tell you, cuz their secret!

I fish van damm and that area quite a bit and have plans to go there and kayak fish next week. Where did you nail those lins out there in relation to the keyhole rock at the center of the bay, and what kind of set up and/or lure/bait were you using. much appreciated.

I'm sorry you couldn't stop bye at Elk I think you would have been more then welcome. Hopefully we will meet some day on one of your trips to the Sur. Thanks for the report. Randall
