Wow!  Thanks for the info! I’ll look for somewhere mellower to go out. I was hoping to try for some Dungeness and rockfish this weekend. I live close to Muir Beach but the surf looks pretty big for this inexperienced kayaker to paddle through. Does anyone have any safer suggestions for launching?

Doran is about as we easy as it gets. Half Moon Bay is easy too, but you have to paddle a ways before you get out through the channel.

Thanks for the suggestion. At Doran do you fish in the harbor or on the south side?

Launch from the jetty parking lot at the very end. People drop pots a short way off the beach and further south. The harbor is really shallow so the only place to drop pots is at the edge of the channel. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. It's a great place to start.

That's NOT the place to learn what the charts mean. That area is the second most dangerous place on the west coast.

What's the most dangerous?

That's funny, I thought, "it's probably where the Columbia enters the sea". Anyway, thanks.
