Some time ago I was told that the Hobie sail mount can be used for PVC crab pot holder. I recently found this on YouTube and decided to try it out.

Lowes ran out of the three way elbow so I modified the design a little bit. I have three crab pots and I will have to fold two of them and put them at the bottom and use the unfolded one on top for buoy and and line storage. I should have cut the stick a little longer but I guess it can still do the job.

Total cost is around $15, excluding tooling and PVC cement & primer. The caps are not necessary but I think by adding them the holder looks better.

Nice! Can you stack more than 1 pot?

I checked it out today. It still works okay if I stack two unfolded pots, but the sight is not that good... A little bit too high.

Looks good, here is my setup for Hobie Outback.  Worked well during a outing to Doran a couple weeks ago. I carried one in front one in back assembled ready to drop.

Not a YouTube motivated thing for all of us.  I put mine on the bow of the 'yak because that's where I can most easily access them and hold them down.  My milk crate is behind me and if I put the pots behind the milk crate, it'll be a comedy show watching me try to get access to the pots. On the bow, I can rig them ready to go and put a piece of 1/2" pvc in my sail mast holder to keep them in place.  Once I'm on the crabbing grounds, I can basically pull the pvc and toss the pot in the water.

Are there downsides to mounting on the bow that I'm not thinking of?

access to your hatch. Seems like it's a new 2020 thing. Been crabbing for a while and never seen it on the front till the youtoobe videos came out with it. Having minimal stuff comes a long way when kayak fishing/crabbing.

Fair point on the hatch.  My kayak doesn't have a bow hatch (yet).  I have one right in front of my chair that I'm going to replace with a rectangle and move the round hatch up forward.  I hear ya on the minimalist stuff.  I keep my milk crate simple, but it is nice to have a decent receptacle that I can reach back and drop stuff into without too much fuss.
