Launched into fog ~6:45 next to pier. Rockfish and KayakJames - did you make it out?  I was looking for you at the launch.

It was flat and windless but fogging till mid morning - then just flat and gorgeous. FYI - yellow lenses (i.e. shooting glasses) really cut through the fog.

I caught 1/2 dozen odd looking anchovies (skinny with odd markings) on sabiki.  When I went to hook one - I noticed some serious teeth - and realized they were ling fry and let them go.

Slow fishing all day until I nailed a nice 16" brown on squid.  I drifted near beach for and hour with a few grabs on my too-big white hair raiser and will assume they were small halis.

Cheers Gordo.

yeah, I made it out.  As we were readying to leave, we talked to a group of kayakers/divers, but in the end it was just Chryss and I.  Just as we were launching, the beach cleaner asked if I had a knife, and I spent the next 20 minutes helping him and an shore fisherman untangle an auklet from a 40 foot set of small gamagatsu hooks...  We ended up snipping 3 of the hooks as close as possible and letting him go just out of the surf.  Who knows if He'll make it, he was thoroughly washed from a long night in the suds and had no oils left...poor little guy.

We finally left from the pier at about 7:30 and headed northwest into the kelp, where we played around for a while watching the seals and otters and TONS of diving birds, but there was no fish love.  We did see a group of kayakers fishing and started to go over to say hi, but they scooted when we got close  :smt102

Left at about 11:00 and drove through traffic ALL THE WAY BACK to Sac...we were so tired when getting home (at 5:00 pm), we slept from 5:30 pm Saturday to 7 am Sunday...I guess I'm too old to take a long day on 3 hours sleep these days...

Sorry we missed you and congrats on the fish,  I would hove loved to see baby lings, way cool
