Crabbing season coming up has me thinking about the logistics of launching at Half Moon Bay. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to HMB and I’ve only ever launched next to the kayak rental place on the east end of the harbor and parked near there in front of the restaurant in the large lot. Is there somewhere else to park and launch maybe on the west side of the harbor in the area of the yacht club? I don’t see any large parking lots on Google Maps. I see one near a trail head but that means dragging your boat a ways. Thanks in advance!

HMB kayaks is pretty popular place to launch.  The other two places would be down by the actual boat launch or the old pier.  The boat launch is close to the fish filet station but also have to deal with boats and driving your car back to a parking spot after you unload.  You can take Princeton ave past the HMB yacht club to where it dead ends.  That's where the old pier used to be.  There is a small parking lot that overflows into varied amounts of street parking.  It's the straightest shot to the jaws from there but no bathrooms or anything.  I usually prefer the old pier launch but watch out for low tide as you'll be muck walking.

If you are going to launch at HMB Kayaks, it's usually more convenient to park in Lot C rather than the lot by the restaurants.  You can rig up in the lot and wheel down the hill behind HMB Kayak.  Others will park in the loading zone right next to HMB Kayak, unload and then park in Lot C.

You can also park by the yacht club if other spots are full. There is  little ramp you can wheel your kayak down. Like the pier there is no bathroom.

re crab: dometic acid is ok....crab used to run on 7 year cycles, at 7 years, the catch would drop off then catch numbers would build.

I thing we are on year 9?
