Curious to know if folks have used hydration packs (camelbacks etc) on their yaks. I’m in the planning stage in anticipation of purchasing a Hobie Outback soon, and was thinking of using a seat back cooler similar to what Perception Kayak sells (photo attached). I’ve googled it and found some folks in Texas placing hydration packs inside the hull due to the fact TX is balls ass hot. I’m thinking a seat back cooler would suffice. What say collective hive mind?

Also, I will be selling my Jackson Cuda 12 shortly to make room for my battleship.

Hope everyone is well and coping. Planning this boat and researching fishing stuff is helping my mental health out tremendously,....so thank you all.

Peace

I put a camelbak bladder inside the hull and use the Hobie thru hull wiring kit to route the tube. It works great, I've always got plenty of water, it keeps the weight low (not that that matters on an AI), and saves on deck space. It's a win-win-win-win.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I like to minimize gear/weight as much as I can. Grabbed one of those soft-sided coolers from costco that they put on sale every now and then: https://www.frugalhotspot.com/2020/05/costco-titan-soft-sided-collapsible-cooler/

I use the cooler as my tackle bag/lunch/bait/gears holder. During hot weather, I put frozen water bottles to keep bait cool. Drink as the frozen water melts. I'll throw one of the bottles in the footwell to melt faster if I anticipate drinking more. If it's uber heat wave hot, I'll stuff one of the frozen water bottles in my PFD against my sternum.

That looks like a great idea!
But remember what goes in has to go out...
Make sure you have ur proper pee bottle for relief!
Or whatever you use....

I should’ve also added that due to some old guy medical junk, I have to drink a shitton of water or unpleasant issues start happenin (young studs, drink hella water,...no joke,...you’re not invincible, as you’ll soon enough find out!) So this mod is somewhat of a requirement for me, as I really don’t want to carry multiple bottles.

Didn’t think about weight distribution,...now leaning towards through hull. Nowhereman, if possible could you shoot me a couple photos of your rigging?

Scottymeboy, hahahaha,....uhyap,...been researching the what goes in comes out strategy too,...and dayam,...some very creative folks out there!

I think I've posted some better pictures before, but can't find that thread. Anyways, here's a few I just took in the dark. If it's not clear, I can try to get some more when/if the sun shines...

Hobie also makes a seat back bag (not a cooler though) that I use. I tried a camelback but ended up just using water bottles that I keep in the seatback pouch.

Great idea; I'm gonna do it.

Just noticed your sig - uneasy rider. I loved that song when I was a kid, although a lot of the references went right over my head.

Funny thing is that I have family in Omaha, so this summer to celebrate the end of Covid, I think I'm going to actually try to go to LA via Omaha...

I tired using bladders and found they didn't do it for me.  I was always finding the tip down in the foot wells. I now use Camel BVack Bicycle insulate bottles. I can throw ice & water in them and am good to go. 2-3 will get you by without issue. Best of all they are dishwasher safe.

One liter Fiji water bottle.  They're square so they don't roll out.  But it's cool or even cold where I fish and 5 hours is a long session for me.
Whatever you decide, make sure you can turn the yak right side up from upside down - in the water.
