Shotgun,

There are a couple good places to launch around thwe pismo beach area.  Pismo State Beach is not really one of them but if you go slightly north, there is shell beach and avila beach.  Shell beach road is the frontage road tah runs parallel to 101.  If you are heading north from pismo get off at shell beach rd and head north.  there are a couple streets that will get you to the launch at shell Beach.  you'll see Central Coast Kayak's on the left. turn left after their shop and it will take you down to the water.  there are two sets of stairs down to the beach where the launch is pretty easy.  There are kelps beds out to the left.  they are not very deep only ~30Fow but you can go out farther and find structure.  there are halibut out there as well.  if heading south on 101 get off at Avila beach dr and almost directly in front of you will be Shell beach road head south and everything will be on your right.  You can go to avila and launch from the beach, but bring your roleez or cart.  You can also go to port san luis where you can drive onto to fisherman's Beaqch and launch from there.  you can head south towards pirates cove for kelp beds or there are Halibut inside the Harbor.  Have seen a ton of shorts inside the harbor but have heard from the charter guys and the live bait guy which is right near the Port san luis pier Can only get to him by boat, that hardly, if any legal buts have been caught inside the harbor.
