Stillwater Cove and new Hobie Revo 13

Well its been a LONG time since I've been in my kayak. 10 Years in fact. I went to Spicer Meadow Reservoir couple of weeks ago and found out the hard way that my Cobra Marauder had a 3" split in the bottom. I made a pit stop after about 1/4 of a mile on the shore and opened a hatch and found that my yak was full of water! A lot of water. Good thing I didnt try to go across the lake like I was going to. So I emptied it out as best I could with my bilge sponge (this is the FIRST and ONLY time I EVER went out without putting my bilge pump on my boat, never again ) and upon further inspection found the problem. I was so bummed! I think the heat inside of my shed from being stored on its side for so long is what caused the split. Its right on the edge of a scupper hole. Then I had to paddle like a mad man back to the boat ramp to get back to my truck and then pump the water out of it with my bilge pump. I really want to fix this thing, I LOVE this boat, I just put a nice shade on it for my poopie dog! Anyway, I'm trying to get Cobra to send me some plastic so I can try and weld it. That should be interesting. In the mean time tho, the new kayak bug has finally come to full manifestation. On Friday I put a down payment on a new Hobie Revolution 13.    I cant wait! I remember so many times being a long way off shore trying to get back because it was getting dicey out there and watching these Hobies just go flying past us! I'm in the process of buying a fish finder for it, man have they come a long way in technology in the last 10 years, holy cow! It will be about a month or so before I get it, and a little while longer to trick it all out. How do you guys like your Revolutions those of you that have one? Any tips for plastic welding? I already drilled a small hole on both sides of the split.
Anyway, my favorite fishing spot was putting out at Stillwater Cove by the tennis club off of 17 mile drive. Does anyone know if we can still do that? It was such a great spot to launch from. I will definitely be looking for some fishing buddies to go out with, all of mine have moved    I do need to stop watching You Tube videos of sharks attacking kayaks.......

Congratulations on getting back to kayakfishings!  I recently jumped back onto a kayak after a long hiatus as well and it has been most grand... this time around has been even better in many regards.  Enjoys...

Yes, the Cove is my favorite spot as well &  still accessible. Weekends though are terrible so you have to come early. Weekdays are a lot better. I'll give you a shout when I'll be there.
$10.50 for gate entrance. During weekends, they block the visitor entrance if you come very early but I still drove thru and told the gatekeeper I'm heading to the beach/pier/dive shop and he let me go in after paying the fee. in cash vs the regular credit card.

Cool! Thanks for the info Danny. I am surprised they havent blocked it off completely to us lowly fisherpeople. Last time I was there we had a marine biologist yelling at us telling us we should buy our fish at Safeway (wheres the fun it that?) and my poor friend Dave got totally berated by an irritated elderly person upset about the parking. I should be getting my yak towards the end of September. I think rockfish is until the end of November right?

Last time I was there we had a marine biologist yelling at us telling us we should buy our fish at Safeway (wheres the fun it that?) and my poor friend Dave got totally berated by an irritated elderly person upset about the parking. I should be getting my yak towards the end of September. I think rockfish is until the end of November right?

Rockfish season (on vessel) through Dec 31! The marine biologist of all people should know that you can't beat fresh fish!!

I have an older hobie revo 13 and I really like it. What it lacks in width/space, it surely makes up for in speed (and it's pretty stable as well).

The ramp is still open to my knowledge.  Danny is correct you can usually get in no issue on weekdays. I have a contractor pass for pebble beach and a pair of roof racks if you (or anyone) wanted to cruise there on a weekend with me.  Mostly been fishing del monte area this summer havent fished stillwater yet this year.  When you get your kayak all decked out and are ready to fish give me a holler

Revo 13 or Compass are good choices if you go that way. Be prepared for having a lot less deck space to work with on the Revo.

Well that explains why Cobra isn't  returning my emails! I was hoping they could send me some plastic so I can weld my Marauder. I love my Marauder too which is why I want to fix it. Its so tricked out: fish finder, extra tie off points and attachments and I just put this on it so my poopie dog can have some shade when we're on the lake. Yes I am already bummed about not having as much deck space on the Hobie as I have with the Marauder, there is so much room on and in this boat! You can take everything with you INCLUDING the kitchen sink. Do you have the one where the rectangle hatch is open all the way thru? The later models its just a small rectangular space under it. I also invented a way to put a rudder on mine. They said they were going to come out with a rudder kit for mine but they never did. LOVE LOVE LOVE this boat.  I already plan to put an additional hatch on the back of the Revo 13 behind the seat. My Revo should be showing up around the end of September. I have 4 kayaks and need to get rid of 2. I have a really cool Perception Corona, closed deck kevlar. I love that boat, I used to fish out of it, which is completely nuts and even installed a rod holder on it. I also have a surfing sit on top, need to get rid of both of these boats. Originally I wanted to learn how to surf in my kayak, but once I went fishing it was game over. Cant go out there now without a pole!! And being upside down underneath a kayak SUCKS!!!

Stillwater can have an unfriendly vibe. The folks that run the golf course and resort don't like us too much. Civilians will come around and disapprove of sport fishing harvest. The security guards will come around and make sure you keep moving when loading and unloading, but they're just doing their job; best to smile and be cool with them. My suggestion: don't get run off. We have a legal right to coastal access there, and we are fishing legally and responsibly (I assume). You can do your part by parking where you are out of the way, avoiding leaving a mess if you clean fish before going home, and just going about your business if someone objects. I've been tempted to tell someone to fuck off there, and I know that confrontations may lead to restrictions- so I held my tongue. But by all means, fish that incredible spot, and protect your right to do so.

No need to apologize. I appreciate the info. Sounds like things havent changed much, thats pretty much how it was when I was there. The harbor master used to let us clean our fish on the dock there which was great, we would always leave him with some nice filets, but that came to an end after a while so we just started taking our fish home with us.

Random that i should find you here again, just thinking about getting up to Stillwater again before the end of this season.  I haven't been there since last year and the kelp was almost entirely gone.

SWS (Stillwater South) is one of my favorite spots to launch from. I just moved to Morgan Hill a few months ago and I'm looking for new fishing buddies in the area. Hopefully, I can get some time to fish again soon.
